This extraordinary fertility goddess in a shape of a gambiong , a rare three dimensional wooden puppet from the North coast of Java, used to open certain wayang kulit plays. Beautifully carved with very fine details this wooden puppet was operated from below by rods connected to the hands and a central control rod that runs through the body to the head. It is a very rare piece dating from the 1800's nice polychrome paint on the face. hands and body, the hands are finely carved which is quite unusual . Museum quality and the most refined piece from my collection.

Puppet "Gambiong 1", with its original clothe, from a traveling theater
that used to play on Central and East Java, looks very much like a
folk art piece, C.1800s another rare piece.
Another Gambiong 2 puppet, from the same region, it has been carved in a very primitive way with a very strong expression .
